Within weeks of the bombing at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the military began a clandestine recruitment of intelligent, brave and loyal women. They were quickly trained to take over a vital and top-secret program that would be instrumental in winning the war. They became known as the Women’s Air Raid Defense (WARD).

Gracie was just sixteen years old when World War ll upturned life in America. She struggled to understand the devastating loss of life. At eighteen, her fiancé became a casualty of the war.
